Originally the city of Panama was established by the Spanish back in 1519, the city was then destroyed by Henry Morgan, an English Pirate in 1671, now the ruins of the city are known as Panama Viejo or the Old Panama. Though the old city is quite extensive there is no real indication of how the city was before it's destruction, you can find a scale model at the National Institute of Culture in Panama.
It is believed that perhaps the most impressive structures of the city were it's churches as they seemed to follow unusual designs with rectangular plans, timber roofs, internal wooden supports, and stone outer walls.
As the houses are made of timber they are mostly found with two or three floors, in addition the Cathedral is the most noticeable structure that attracts many tourists.
